David Collins, winemaker for Big Cork Vineyards, will lead, for the second year, a small group to Europe to discover and explore the wines of France. Burgundy, Bordeaux, Loire Valley, and Champagne regions are on the schedule for April 2018.
The 12 night itinerary includes visits to wineries and vineyards chosen by David and complimented with culinary experiences. The trip is nicely balanced with planned activities and free time to explore independently.
France is Wine…and Wine is France
“FRANCE sits at the pinnacle of the wine world. Its characteristic regional styles—including Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone blends and Champagne—are imitated by winemakers around the globe.” states The Economist. This is precisely the reason France was chosen as the next wine destination, and who better to escort this group than the award-winning winemaker, David Collins. It is a rare opportunity to have an accomplished winemaking for the duration of this trip and available as a personal guide to decipher the fine points of wine growing, wine making and wine tasting. “I am most excited about this trip,” David says, “and seeing the great vineyards of Burgundy that I have heard about for three decades. It is old-world perspective of wine making that is intriguing.”
David’s wine creations at Big Cork Vineyards have made news–The Baltimore Sun, Washington Post, Wine Enthusiast. They won the Best in Show for both the Maryland Governor’s Cup and the Maryland Comptrollers Cup in 2015, and most recently they stole the show at the Maryland Comptroller’s Cup. This competition is open to all wines produced in Maryland and is held in the spring each year. Wines are judged by wine professionals, including winemakers, sommeliers, wine buyers and wine writers. The following awards are from the most recent competition in April:
- Best in Show
- Best in Class
- 4 Double Gold Medals
- 10 Gold Medals
Imagine 12 nights in France, lovely accommodations, great food, great wine, great conversation with great people.
